The Playa Flamenca X website cost the community €362 last year, the web hosting contract is due for renewal this July and it is expected that the cost will increase. We do need to consider if it continues to provide value for money for the community. Technology has moved on, applications such as WhatsApp can provide a more inclusive way of sharing information.
There are some significant advantages to the website – articles can be read in a variety of languages, it provides information to a wider group of residents than social media groups, and it can be used to provide useful information, such as community rules, to anyone with internet access (non-residents, guests, renters etc).
There are viable alternatives to the website that would maintain communication with the whole community at minimal cost to the community:
- Email can still be used to contact all residents
- The Playa Flamenca X WhatsApp channel can be used to share information. This could also be used by non-residents and renters.
- There are tools on computers and smartphones that can be used to translate information
These are in addition to the social media groups that already exist within the community that are managed separately by residents.
